Helen embarks on a passionate affair with a man who has no idea what her secret identity is. Helen’s employer, caught in a crossfire when her lover falls victim to London’s dangerous underworld, calls on Sam to protect her. He plays Bingo, the owner of the guitar shop where Sam gets his guns.
It starts off really well
Starring Graham Norton and guests: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jaylen Ngonda (2024). A Tale of New York Written by Jem Finer, Shane McGowan, starring The Pogues & Kirsty McCall. It’s one of those traditional entertainers where the acting can’t really be faulted and the production values are almost flawless.
But John Le Carre isn’t
You think you’re going to be swept up and captivated by a complex spy thriller. Instead, you soon realize that it’s neither serious nor funny. As is often the case these days, the problem is the lack of a story.
A sad disappointment, it could have been really good
It has quirky characters and genuine heroes with all the charm and conversational wit one would expect from psychopaths. They might be related to Eve from Killing Eve, but they’re poor cousins and don’t quite fit the psychopath DNA heritage scale. It’s a comic spy thriller cartoon with a plot that relies on a thin plot and frequent action scenes to fill the space.
