The Maynards and their children lead an almost perfect life as a billionaire family. Amon is a passionate hunter, but he does not shoot animals, because the family’s wealth allows them to live completely without consequences. Financing took 7 years. Ayn Rand: Who will stop me? Saw it at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024. Cinematographers Daniel Hoesl and Juliana Niemann clearly have an interesting satirical take on the wealthy class, and while there are some good ideas, it feels underdeveloped and not as strong as it appears in the film. The design, cinematography and color rendering are superb throughout and truly beautiful as they help convey the atmosphere and essence of the characters. Hoesl and Niemann’s direction is a bit chaotic, but they have a clear idea of the style and atmosphere they’re aiming for. Many acting games are good, but some children’s performances are a little weak. The storytelling is a good concept, but unfortunately it doesn’t feel as strong as it seems because the narrative feels underdeveloped on some topics and the characters don’t seem believable or interesting enough for you to connect with emotionally. As if there were good ideas that didn’t really live up to the potential they wanted. There are certain moments that are shocking, unnerving and quite strange, and I understand the reasoning and vision of the filmmakers. But it doesn’t feel entirely deserved, and the style is too similar to something by Ruben Östlund or Michael Haneke. In general, it’s not bad, there are some moments that I shade. But it could be better.
